Lie-Downs

For some reason yesterday, I was excited about the Lions-Cowboys game. Looking back I realize now how frickin nuts I was. Harrington played like a 12-year old girl. She got benched, but unfortunately, Mike McMahon took the helm and played like that girl's slightly slow 8-year old kid brother.

Now, I won't completely blame the quarterbacks, although they did set the tone for the team. Harrington's INTs made me wonder if he'd gotten some career advice from Pete Rose during the offseason, and McMahon going 5-for-20, in what really was his only opportunity to prove he can play, was honestly disturbing.

Have you any idea how embarrassing it is to wear Lions gear to the bar to watch the games and have your team perform in this way? Luckily I live in Chicago, where the Bears are a dirty word, so no one could really make fun of me.

Anyway, here are a couple articles from the Free Press I thought were kinda funny this morning. I can say two things about Detriot sports writers. One, they're so fairweather and jaded, its silly. Mitch Albom's views change more than Madonnna's religious beliefs. Today, he bashed the Lions like his counterpart Drew Sharp.

Oh, and the other thing I can say about Detroit sports writers, they live for Mondays after disappointing Lion's performances. I'd put a fiver down that Drew Sharp couldn't sleep last night with anticipation of his column coming out in the morning.

"...A team whose season is done once again well before the midway point." -Drew Sharp

You probably got all warm and fuzzy writing that. Mr. Sharp, you continue to amaze me.

Michigan vs. Illinois

So, Michigan's been a major disappoint this year. They weren't as good as we all thought. Talking seriously about the National Title seems like ages ago, but in reality, it was just a couple weeks. They have serious concerns on defense. Minnesota looked like they lined up Michael Vick and Cyber Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl circa 1990 last weekend against our Wolverines. Seriously. They had so many rushing yards at halftime, their tailback when asked how Michigan's D played in the first half, remarked "Michigan D. Never met 'em".

Our offense played so well in the shotgun all 2nd half, Lloyd surprised himself and won a game he had no intention in winning. It was comical, like when a contestant on the Real World/Road Rules Challanges cries when they are voted out.

Anyway, every week from here on out will be a battle. Lots of talent. Tons of potential. Did you hear Woodley starting this weekend? I only see good things in our future, but right now, let's take it one game at a time.

Oh, and Illinois. Yeah, I heard they beat Division I-AA Illinois State this year. Did I mention they're 1-6.

Michigan - 38, Illinois - 1-7
