Sports Fanatics

This is one of the funniest things I've ever read about a drunken college sports fan's day. Most of my memories from college gamedays at U of M can't rival this, but it definitely brought back some idiot drunken moments I've shared with my boys. If this doesn't get you hyped for college football to start, nothing will.

Lion's Report

Today is Detroit Lion's training camp review on ESPN.com. I'll sum it up for you if you don't feel like reading.

Joey will begin to remind fans of Barry Sanders as he will look awfully good on an awful team.

Mariucci, determined to turn these Lions around, is realizing Marty might have made the right move in getting fired.

Rogers will be deemed the savior and should have a productive year as the Lions are forced to score over 30 points and throw 60 times a game as they attempt to play catch-up week after week.

The defensive side of the ball is so iffy, I heard Matt Millen was scouting state prisons for "hidden" talent.

He's Back

I don't know about you, but I saw the condensed 24 minute version of this year's first NFL Countdown last night and I got all excited about the NFL. And not so much just about the NFL, but mostly just about the Lions. I know they're not good or anything, but I'm gonna play NFL analyst for a minute and say, "I like their speed and youth. If this team can get some of these young players to step up, we might have a good team on our hands in the NFC North."

You might believe it - you might not. Shaun Rogers dropped 30 and looks agile again. C. Rogers is looking better than expected at receiver, which if you saw him at State last year, should not be physically possible. Harrington has another year under his belt. The O-Line is young. Our D is rebuilding and getting faster. Honestly folks, all we need is that X factor.

What's the X factor? It's that player that no one expects anything from, but turns out to be the savior. Think Tom Brady in 2001. Detroit's X factor comes in the form of an undersized receiver who's recovering from a hip injury. His name is Az Hakim and even the writers at SI are taking notice.

Don't say you didn't hear it here first.

Sausage Attack

I don't know if anyone saw it on Sportscenter today, but Randall Simon took a crack at the Sausage during the Sausage Race in Milwaukee last night. I can honestly say this was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, but it appears Simon might pay the price for this one. In fact, after the game, the cops came and got him and charged him.

Was it worth it? You bet your ass. Randall Simon, I salute you for trying to bring something fun into the game of baseball, because lord knows, they need it.

King James

23 minutes, 5-11 (0-3 3PTs), 15 pts, 7 rebs, 6 assists, 3 TOs, 2:1 A:T Ratio

So they line him up at point, make him run the show, and he does his best Magic Johnson impression while lighting up a team of Orlando Magic bench players. I'm not saying this kid's the savior or the next Jordan or anything like that. But considering all the hype, pressure, and everything else everyone is putting on this kid, realizing he was playing with high-schoolers a couple months ago, I think he may have answered some serious questions including "is he really ready?".

Maybe this year the Cavs can hit the 35 win mark. Read the details at ESPN.com.

And while the world goes goo-goo for King James, The Prince quietly puts up 26 for the Pistons. Does anyone else see Tayshaun the Prince vs. King James matchups being a big deal in about 53 years? The matchup at the Royal Palace in Auburn Hills? Are you kiddin me....

Classic Dumb-Ass Athlete

So, I'm sure you all heard that Damon Stoudamire got caught for drug posssion in the airport the other day. I didn't hear the story until this morning and thought you, my favorite readers of Solotarian Views who visit the sports page, would enjoy this.

Apparently, Damon the Dope decided to wrap the weed in tin foil before taking off for the airport. Want to guess who had the metal detector at the gate going off?

I would pay top pay-per-view money to see that airport security tape when the guard saw the tin foiled package and then when he realized it was pot. I think this comes in second for dumbest way to get weed on an airplane, just in front of actually smoking it while making the attempt and only behind saying to the guard, "I've got some serious weed in my bag."
