I'm giddy that we're the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Ecstatic that we won 50 games again this season.
Overwhelmed with joy that we drew Orlando - a team we've had no problem with in the regular season.
So why am I so worried about Sunday's loss to the Magic and essential matchup tonight at the Palace?
Because Carlisle resorted back to his old ways. He didn't let the young guys play. He kept Michael Curry on the floor the whole game, completely stagnating our offense flow. He left it to Billups and Hamilton to score, and benched the Alternators when an ill-advised shot was launched.
Now, I know, I know - it's playoff basketball and it's different. That's what made the Pistons of the late 90s so special. They weren't the most talented team in the league, but they would pound on you and battle with you until talent was no longer a factor in determining who won and who lost the game. It came down to who wanted it more. On Sunday, the Magic wanted it more. And they rested their hopes on the most talented player in the league, Tracy McGrady, and he came through. He hit big shot after big shot, and the Piston were no match for him.
Carlisle - if you're listening. Forget about McGrady. He's gonna get his 40. It doesn't matter who's d'ing him, be it Curry or any of our other offensive minded players who should without doubt play over him, he's gonna get his. Play like you've played all year, go to work, and make me proud that I'm not a Wings fan.
I think we will all agree that Michael Jordan is and always will be, the greatest man to ever play the game of basketball. If you don't agree with my last comment, stop reading this now, head to your local video store, and pick up some of the Jordan highlight videos from his playoff years in the 90s. Then tuck your tail between your legs and waddle back here to Solotarian Views and finish up.
Regardless, the world has gone LeBron crazy. I have a co-worker from Cleveland who couldn't define "traveling", but says a little prayer every night that the Cavs get the 1st pick in the lottery. An 18-year old kid is being praised as the savior of basketball post-Jordan, and he's never even played against anyone over the age of 18. That my friends is what I think is crazy.
Like the rest of the world, I thought MJ and LJ were dawgs. Rolling out in Hummers. Taking private jets to exotic locations. Playing in pick-up games against Vince Carter and Timmy Duncan. You know - the whole 9 yards.
Who knew they hardly knew each other? And who knew Jordan had some serious doubts about his game - most notably his defensive skills and inflated expectations?
Finally, someone tells it like they see it. And I respect Jordan for that. He may be a cock in some sense - but honestly, doesn't he hold the right to be?
Read the article. He puts things in perspective and I applaud Jim Armstrong for getting the low down. It's a little harse, he even says maybe in 5 years LJ might be a "good" pro and the only thing he left out was his impression of that "what's his nuts on LJ's chin" joke I like so much. If Jordan would consider sticking around for 1 more year, I would give up my boyish good looks and left pinky toe to see him face off against LJ....
Read up on the team, 'cause come September, Michigan football with dominate Solotarian Sports once again and you don't want to be left saying, "Who the hell is he talking about?".
Special note to my Chicago Michigan Football Watching Crew - This is required reading. I refuse to answer any of the following questions this year.
Have you seen it? I think they lost it or something... and since I'm so nice, I agreed to put this Missing post up for GM Epstein and all my new family and friends in Boston.
If found, please return to Pedro and Wakefield or risk blown save after blown save all year long as you finish, once again, dare I say it, behind the Yankees.
Closer-by-committee - ridiculous. Only in the most cursed sports town in America....
Now, I've played fantasy football and basketball - even tried fantasy golf for free once. But I can honestly say that after 2 days of fantasy baseball, I'm officially hooked. Andy Pettitte just pitched a 6-hitter, 7 strike out, perfect 7 innings and I had to take a walk around the office to unwind a bit before returning back to work.
Big Ten Basketball - Literally. Blowing up.
